  • Why this registered design rocks: Unlike rockin’ patents, registered designs protect the way all or part of a product looks rather than how it works. This registered design appears to relate to Bang & Olufsen’s Beolab 8002speaker. Not only did Bang & Olufsen seek registered design protection for this shape, they also tried to obtain a registered trademark for the shape (see next post for details). Unlike registered designs or patents, trademarks provide a potentially infinite term of protection, so could be extremely valuable.
