  • Rockin’ Patent®: US Patent No. 1,641,608
  • Filed: 24 June 1922
  • In the name of: George O Squier, Joseph O Mauborgne and Cohen Louis (inventors)
  • Title: Electrical Signaling
  • What’s claimed”In a system for the reception of radio signals the combination of an antenna, a single wave coil, and an electron tube detector, the grid of said electron tube detector being electrostatically connected to one point on the wave coil, the filament of the electron tube detector being connected to another point on the said wave coil, and the whole wave coil being connected in the plate filament circuit forming part of the plate filament, circuit thereby effecting regeneration, the filament being grounded.”
  • Why this patent rocks: This patent appears to be one of several patents relating to the technical basis for Muzak, a brand of background music for retail stores and public establishments. The invention seems to relate to the transmission of information signals over electrical lines. This technology was later recognised for its potential to deliver music to listeners without using radio, but instead via electrical wires. For more information, see here.
