Reduce your workload with a patent attorney you can rely on

My name is Iain Russell, and I handle patent work for other patent attorneys, law firms and tech companies. Whether you need an extra pair of hands or for me to be an integral part of your team, I’d be more than happy to help!

FYI… I’ve completed 200+ office action responses in the last 2 years!

Fellow patent attorneys, say goodbye to having to work late and on weekends

Drafting and prosecuting a robust patent application can be a complex and time-consuming process, especially if the project or technology is outside of your main area of expertise.

I know how demanding patent law can be, with the constant pressure to draft patent applications and respond to office actions in a timely manner, and with the least amount of pushback possible.

Sometimes though, there’s just too much work to be done and everything becomes an urgent priority. With work piling up and deadlines fast approaching, you’ve realised that you need some help… and that’s okay!

Russell IP removes the pressure that backlog brings, by offering a safe pair of hands to patent attorneys who need their patent projects to be completed, on time and to a high standard. In short, no more working after hours!

Who We Work With

Why should you trust me?

I’ve had many clients mention to me that they’ve been let down by other patent attorneys before, that have produced sloppy work and have been very unresponsive. It was often my clients chasing the attorneys and not the other way around.

Me? I typically respond to emails within an hour, even if it’s just to let you know that I’m looking into it, because I believe that good communication goes a long way.

I’ve drafted hundreds of patent applications over my career and completed over 200 office action responses in the last 2 years, treating every single one of them with the great deal of care and attention that they deserve.

My analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in handling different types of patent applications have resulted in me only having to attend 2 oral proceedings since 2004. Neither of those was an application I drafted.

And as such, I’ve saved my clients countless hours and thousands of pounds. I’m confident that I can do the same for you.

Here's what my clients have to say

Working with Russell IP, we were able to solidify all of our invention ideas and articulate them into a robust patent application that we have confidence and belief in. Iain Russell is an expert in music and audio technologies, which has been invaluable to us for protecting our intellectual property in this vibrant and rapidly evolving industry.

Professor Rob Toulson, RT60

Iain Russell is recommended for his attention to detail and thorough understanding of telecommunications.

Iain is that rare breed of patent attorney whose technical knowledge rivals his intricate knowledge of the law. He has particular expertise in handling the complexities of successfully prosecuting computer software inventions. But more importantly, Iain is a pleasure to work with.

International IP Law Firm

Iain has played an integral part in the execution of our early patent/IP strategy. He worked alongside our core team, jumping straight in and providing valuable feedback right away on our core inventions and technologies. Iain also deeply understands music, audio and AI technologies which was a crucial benefit for us. Iain helped deliver outstanding results in rapid time. His communication and planning skills are outstanding. Iain provides exceptional services, we consider him an integral part of our team and look forward to our continued work together.

Luke Dzierzek,
CEO, Scored

We’ve worked with Iain for years and are really impressed by his consistency. Over the years Iain has helped us support and educate our potential founders to develop their knowledge on Intellectual Property and how this impacts a commercial venture. Iain has developed his approach and materials really well to suit our audience of academics and postdocs, engages with us really authentically and we’re happy to be working with him.

Eleni Assargiotis,
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Manager, Imperial College London

We have discussed, and worked on, numerous patent matters with Iain over the last fifteen years, from when he worked with us in-house to now at Russell IP. When we have a patent question needing external patent attorney input, Iain is the first partner we think of contacting.

Innovia Technology

Iain Russell is hugely knowledgable technically, which was invaluable in drafting the two patent applications we filed this year so far. The whole process was streamlined, logical and moved very fast. The communication was outstanding. Iain’s willingness to work to our deadlines was beneficial. Everyone in the team enjoyed the process, which was a first for a patent.

Laurent Veignal,
R&D Manager, Blackstar Amplification

Iain has been helping Imperial College London students and alum entrepreneurs for years and is an incredibly safe pair of hands for working with founders at the start of their entrepreneurial journeys. IP is such a big concern for our founders, and they are highly cognizant of the fact that determining whether they should be protecting it and moving forwards with doing so when appropriate, are areas where speaking with a specialist is a must. Iain is friendly, superb at explaining complex issues and with his knowledge of the practical aspects of running a startup, is able to deftly help founders understand the different paths they can take so that they can make confident, informed decisions.

Victoria Nicholl,
Entrepreneurship Development Manager, Imperial Enterprise Lab

I’ve worked with Iain for over five years, taking proof of concept through to multiple granted patents. It was clear from our first meeting that Iain was not a normal patent attorney – he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of patent law and a deep grasp of technology but also fully understands the inventor journey. The advice Iain has given for multiple applications, office actions and examiner interviews has been first rate and I highly recommend Russell IP, especially when working directly with technology companies.

Elliott Brown,
CEO, NUM Technology

I couldn’t possibly have asked for more from Russell IP. Iain produced and filed a patent application of stellar quality, with an extremely restrictive timeframe. It articulated our ideas more elegantly than I had been able to myself. He is clearly very intelligent and has deep domain knowledge. We’ll be working exclusively with Russell IP from here on.

Dr Robert Quinn,
Co-founder and CEO, Makesense Technology

Iain Russell is extremely technical but also very personable.
