  • Rockin’ Patent®: US Patent No. 10,770,046
  • Filed: 13 June 2019
  • In the name of: Oddball Studios Limited
  • Title: Interactive Percussive Device For Acoustic Applications
  • What’s claimed: “A percussive interactive device, comprising: an external polyhedric or spherical case of deformable material; and an internal case within the external case and housing an electronic apparatus, wherein the electronic apparatus is configured to detect a set of external forces from at least a rebound effect applied to the electronic apparatus as a result of the external case impacting and deflecting off of a surface external to the external case, to collect electronic data related to the rebound effect, to convert the collected electronic data into converted electronic data related to the rebound effect for subsequent audio application, and to transmit the converted electronic data to remote interactive device, the converted electronic data being configured to be processed by the remote interactive device for emitting related sounds.”
  • Why this patent rocks: This patent appears to be the ODD Ball by Oddball Studios Limited, a silicone covered ball equipped with trigger pads that creates new samples via touch. Oddball Studios Limited explains that it “…works as a wireless music controller and is sensitive to the intensity of the bounce. It connects to the ODD App where you can choose sounds from an expansive sound library, play over tracks and make beats with your friends. Every time you bounce, catch, spin or juggle the ball, the app will play a sound through the phone’s internal speaker or any headphone or speaker connected to the phone.” The company also notes that ODD can be used as a MIDI device, which can be plugged directly into several digital audio workstations (DAW).
